Government-run cannabis store now open at Uptown Shopping Centre in Saanich

Greater Victoria’s first government-run cannabis shop is now open in Saanich.

The new location marks the sixth location on Vancouver Island and the 27th in the province.

Now open at Uptown Shopping Centre at 3561 Blanshard Street (Unit E-109), the BC Cannabis store will have regular operating hours between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday to Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Sunday and most statutory holidays.

The store will offer a range of products including edibles, extracts, topicals, dried cannabis flower, oils, capsules and pre-rolls

In a media release, BCCS said that the 3,410 square foot store is designed to be bright, clean, welcoming and professional, staffed by five full-time employees supported by eight auxiliary employees.

Staff will employ a strict two ID check for people who look under 30, which ensures only those over the age of 19 enter the premises.

BCCS’ are complying to all provincial health guidelines including mandatory masks and cleaning procedures.

BCCS’ are operated by the LDB, which is the sole wholesaler and public retailer of non-medical cannabis. It contributes over $1.1 billion annually to the province, providing funding for vital public services like health care and education.
