Man arrested after trying to steal and crashing City of Victoria vehicle

A man has been arrested after an early-morning incident that saw him allegedly steal and crash a City of Victoria vehicle.

Police were called to the 900-block of Pandora Avenue at approximately 4:20 a.m. Wednesday morning for a report of a single-vehicle collision.

Officers were also notified that a person involved in the collision was being restrained by several bystanders.

When VicPD arrived, they were told that a suspect had tried to steal a City of Victoria vehicle.

A staff member with the City attempted to intervene, and the vehicle collided with a street light. The suspect then attempted to flee, and several bystanders restrained him.

The male suspect was arrested and taken to hospital, along with the victim. Both were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
