Search and rescue teams perform nighttime rescue to save hiker near Comox Lake

Rescue teams with Comox Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) successfully located a hiker during a nighttime operation Saturday evening.

According to CVSAR, the teams were dispatched at roughly 11 p.m. to assist a solo hiker who was lost on the cliffs overlooking Comox Lake.

Rescuers pinged the hiker’s phone to determine her location. Two crews then travelled by boat to the shoreline below, while a third team used logging roads to reach terrain above.

Boat teams were able to reach the hiker and deployed landlines to help her down to the shoreline.

The hiker was returned by boat to her campsite. CVSAR said in a Facebook post that the entire operation lasted until about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday.

“A reminder that there is no charge for Search and Rescue in BC when you call 911,” CVSAR said.
