A 16-year-old is facing a charge of manslaughter for the death of a man killed by a garbage truck on Douglas Street.

The news comes shortly after Saanich Police released information on the June 1st death that said the victim died after an altercation with a suspect.

According to police, that altercation led to the victim being hit by a passing vehicle at the corner of Douglas Street and Saanich Road, near Uptown Shopping Centre.

The 34-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not considered a suspect and was said to have cooperated fully with police.

The incident was handed off to the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crimes Unit (VIIMCU) for further investigation.

Police say they will not be naming the accused teenager, in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Anyone who has direct information on the incident but has not yet spoken to investigators is asked to contact the VIIMCU at (250) 380-6211.
