All COVID-19 immunization bookings for Friday at the Eagle Ridge Community Centre in Langford are being moved to Victoria due to the heatwave.

In a statement from Island Health, the health authority said the decision to change locations is due to the challenges it faced at the during the June heat wave.

All appointments booked on Friday, July 30th at Eagle Ridge will occur at the Victoria Conference Centre. Appointment dates and times remain the same, only the location will change.

Everyone affected will be contacted directly. It’s unclear if Saturday appointments will be moved as well but Island Health said it is monitoring the conditions.

“We acknowledge this may be frustrating for some people and we ask for patience and understanding as we move through the effects of this weather event and plan to continue immunizations through the summer,” Island Health said in a statement.

Earlier this week, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Vancouver Island and other parts of BC.

According to the weather statement, a strengthening ridge of high pressure is expected to bring increasing temperatures to the south coast as the week progresses.

Beginning today, daytime high temperatures will rise into the high 20s near the water to low 30s inland.

Thursday to Saturday are expected to be the hottest days during the heat wave with Saturday seeing highs of at least 29°C.
