BC health officials report 54 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, July 15th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 54 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, July 15th.

There have been 148,282 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 9
  • Fraser Health: 19
  • Island Health: 5
  • Interior Health: 20
  • Northern Health: 1

There are currently 650 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

145,859 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 63 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 12 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

1 new person has died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,761.

Outbreaks

There is currently 1 outbreak in acute-care facilities: Laurel Place at Surrey Memorial Hospital (Fraser Health).

Island Health:

Island Health reported 5 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region and 28 active cases.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 15 (+4)│Total Cases: 1991
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 9 (+0) │ Total Cases: 2492
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 4 (+1) │Total Cases: 707 

2 people remain in hospital with 1 in ICU. 

There have been no new deaths in the Island Health region today, and a total of 41 deaths on Vancouver Island.

Vaccinations

79.4% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 48.6% have received their second dose.

In addition, 80.5% of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 51.9% have received their second dose.

To date, 5,942,064 (+69,507) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 2,253,818 (+62,503) of which are second doses.
