BC health officials report 59 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, July 8th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 59 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, July 8th.

There have been 147,915 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 10
  • Fraser Health: 21
  • Island Health: 7
  • Interior Health: 19
  • Northern Health: 2

There are currently 649 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

145,491 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 74 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 19 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

1 new death has been reported from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll 1,760.

Outbreaks

There are currently 3 outbreaks in long-term care, assisted-living facilities and acute-care facilities.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 7 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region and 16 active cases.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 3 (+0)│Total Cases: 1976
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 12 (+1) │ Total Cases: 2491
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 1 (+1) │Total Cases: 704

3 people remain in hospital with 1 in ICU.

There have been no new deaths in the Island Health region today, and a total of 41 deaths on Vancouver Island.

Vaccinations

78.4% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 40.0% have received their second dose.

To date, 5,497,150 (+93,103) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 1,854,387 (+81,792) of which are second doses.
