Here’s how you can show thanks to front line workers and first responders this BC Day

This Monday, August 2nd is BC Day, a day off for many British Columbians.

However, there are many hard workers in our province helping in the fight against COVID-19 and the wildfires raging in the interior.

In March of last year, Oak Bay residents took to their porches and balconies to cheer for all the front line health care workers and others who worked to keep us all safe during the global COVID-19 pandemic – and the rest of the province followed suit.

This BC Day, Premier John Horgan invites all British Columbians to salute both front line workers and those battling wildfires in our province with a public cheer.

“There are so many people in this province who continue day in and day out to help, protect and support others,” said Premier Horgan. “They are the heart of British Columbia, and they should be celebrated this year on B.C. Day.”

At 7 p.m. on Monday, August 7th, you’re encouraged to take a moment to bang pots and pans and make noise outside your home to express your gratitude for all that these workers do.

“Health-care workers, first responders and so many others have been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic to maintain essential services and supply lines. Their selfless efforts are now echoed by those bravely battling wildfires in the province,” said Premier Horgan.

This salute is part of Vax for BC, another step to encourage all British Columbians to get vaccinated in the fight against COVID-19.

Vax for BC includes health authorities bringing vaccines to residents where they work, play and shop as well as the first province-wide Walk-in Wednesday.

On August 4th, clinics throughout the province will reserve 20,000 doses for walk in-vaccinations for those who still need their first dose or who are eligible to receive their second.
