Knife-wielding man arrested downtown after chasing VicPD cruiser Saturday morning

One man is in custody after chasing a police cruiser with a knife early Saturday morning.

At approximately 7 a.m. on July, 10th Victoria Police were deployed to assist City of Victoria bylaw officers in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue.

While departing the area by vehicle, the officers were chased by a man brandishing a knife.

The man did not make contact with the police vehicle and returned to his encampment. 

Officers returned to the scene shortly after and arrested the man for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The man, who was subject to conditions of release orders which prohibited him from possessing knives or weapons of any kind, was wielding a double-edged knife. 

The 31-year-old Victoria man faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a release order.
