RCMP are asking the public to avoid a Tim Hortons in Campbell River following a serious incident at the establishment.

The incident occurred at the Willow Point Tim Hortons along Highway 19A Thursday morning.

“There is an ongoing investigation in the area of Tim Hortons,” said RCMP Sgt. Chris Manseau.

“That is all we can say at this time.”

There are unconfirmed reports someone was shot during a possible armed robbery and a K9 police dog was fatally stabbed. It is believed the suspect was the person shot.

One witness told Victoria Buzz police were seen chasing a man who drove into the Tim Hortons parking lot and fled. Officers blocked him in, the police dog charged the suspect who then stabbed the dog to death and officers returned fire on the suspect.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has confirmed to Victoria Buzz it is investigating an incident in Campbell River but could not release any further details at this time.
