Recent grad of Langford’s Belmont Secondary gets drafted to the MLB

A Victoria-native is headed to the big leagues!

Dominic Hambley was drafted by the Chicago Cubs as the 544th overall selection in the 18th round of the MLB draft.

Hambley is a 6-foot-3, 230-pounds right-handed pitcher with a 95 mph fastball and was the only representative for Canada at the Super 60 — an invitation-only event featuring the top MLB draft prospects.

He was the first player to represent BC at the same event, and is a recent graduate of Langford’s Belmont Secondary.

In 2020, Hambley committed to Oregon State in Beaverton, Oregon from the Victoria Mariners.

According to Prep Baseball Report, he has been bumping up his mph and has shown a stronger commitment to his physique this off-season through improved movement.

We wish Hambley all the best and are proud that a Canadian is representing this side of the country in baseball!
