A man has been arrested in connection with a string of indecent acts allegedly committed at Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park.

Saanich Police say they have taken a 76-year-old man into custody who they are linking to two incidents in June and another this week.

In the most recent incident, a witness called in a report of an indecent act on Saturday, July 24th at 4:15 p.m. She told officers that she had seen a man sitting by the water’s edge, and suspected he was masturbating.

A description of the suspect matched two previous incidents reported to police at the same location on Hamsterly Beach. Those two prior incidents occurred on June 19th and 27th, 2021.

The witness at the most recent incident was also able to record the licence plate of the suspect’s vehicle.

On July 25th, police arrested the 76-year-old suspect. He has been released with a court date in September. As part of his release conditions, the man is not to attend a park, swimming area, playground or school where children under the age of 16 are present.

Police are still investigating, and at the moment have recommended only one count of committing an indecent act.

They added that they believe the man is responsible for all three reported incidents.

“While the investigation is still ongoing, we believe this suspect to be the same person in each of the three incidents reported from Hamsterly Beach,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades.
