Massive mural at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre allows you to play augmented reality basketball (VIDEO)

If you’ve driven or walked past the Save on Foods Memorial Centre lately, you may have noticed a brand new addition on the side of the building.

Mounted on the side of the arena is a 20’ X 40’ mural of a basketball court. Looks can be deceiving, however, as it isn’t just a mural!

When you approach the mural, pull out your phone, scan the nearby QR code to experience the artwork in a whole new way.

You will be presented with 3D animals, hidden puzzles and thematic content related to basketball and the Pacific Northwest.

The mural was created in collaboration by local artist Samantha Paul who designed the artwork and Hololabs who implemented the augmented interactivity element.

It was added to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre during the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which took place in Victoria from June 29th to July 4th.

Although the ‘We the West Basketball Festival’ is now over, you can still visit the mural downtown and use the QR code to play some interactive games.

Hololabs have a few more interactive projects planned for the future, check out their website and follow their Instagram for announcements.
