(Saanich Fire Department)

Saanich Police are still trying to determine if everyone escaped a house fire they have deemed suspicious.

On Wednesday, August 11th, around 1:15 a.m, Saanich Fire attended a large house fire at the corner of Battleford Avenue and Wascana Street near the Trans-Canada Highway.

Detectives and forensic officers for Saanich Police are currently investigating the cause of the blaze and have said that due to the extensive damage, it may take longer than initially expected.

Several people were living in the home, and most have been accounted for.

However, Saanich police said they are unable to confirm that everyone made it out safe until they complete a thorough search of the house.

Yesterday, Captain Randall Carnell of Saanich Fire told Victoria Buzz that there were no injuries that they know of.

Saanich Fire has set up displacement services for anyone needing it.

Currently the scene is taped off until at least Friday.

Saanich Police said that more information will be released once a search has been completed and the cause of the fire has been identified.
