Police investigating early morning homicide in Victoria on Tuesday

Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in Victoria early Tuesday morning.

In a media release, VicPD said the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) is investigating a homicide that occurred at around 5 a.m. in the 1000-block of Carberry Gardens.

VicPD were dispatched to the home where officers located a man within the residence suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The officers and paramedics provided emergency first aid, however, the man died from his injuries.

Following the death, VicPD’s major crime unit were called to the scene and took over the investigation.

“The incident is being treated as a homicide and VIIMCU has assumed conduct of the investigation,” VicPD said in a statement.

“The investigation remains ongoing and remains in the early stages.”

No arrests have been made.

At this time, police say there is no indication that there is a risk to the general public but that this risk assessment remains ongoing.

A witness living in the area reported hearing three gunshots around 3:30 a.m. this morning, however, police have not confirmed the cause of death.

Investigators are seeking anyone who may have information surrounding this incident, including dashcam or video footage of the area of the 1000-block of Carberry Gardens from 6 p.m. on the night of August 30th to 6 a.m. this morning, August 31st.
