Saanich Commonwealth Place will temporarily close down next week

Starting next week, Saanich Commonwealth Place (SCP) will undergo a planned power outage for electrical upgrades.

Starting Monday, September 6th to Thursday, September 16th, the entire facility will be closed for installation of the permanent transformer replacement.

The closure includes the Bruce Hutchinson Library.

The weight room will re-open to the public on Friday, September 17th. The remainder of the facilities will reopen on Monday, September 20th.

In May, SCP experienced a total transformer failure resulting in a two-day closure for the facility.

In order to keep vital air handling, electrical and pool filtration systems running, an emergency mobile generator was installed before being replaced with a temporary transformer.

“We want to thank our patrons and neighbours for their patience and understanding as we complete this final step in the transformer repairs,” said SCP Manager Jennifer Jakobsen, “We appreciate the support from the community as we continue our programming through this challenge.”

This planned outage is said to be the final service interruption in this series of work at the SCP.
