It’s hard to imagine being one of the strongest people in the world, but according to the results of the 2021 CrossFit Games, one of them lives right here on Vancouver Island!

Last week, Nanaimo resident Patrick Vellner competed in the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games in Madison, Wisconsin.

The games took place over 4 days, testing strength, stamina and skill in a series of 15 different events. Athletes from all over the world came together to compete to be the world’s strongest man or woman.

Vellner has been competing at CrossFit Games since 2013, bringing home two third place and two second place wins.

The 31-year-old brought home second place in his most recent CrossFit Games event, resulting in him being considered the second strongest man in the world.

Although Vellner has been working and competing in CrossFit games for 8 years, the COVID-19 pandemic brought a new drive and sense of focus to his training.

During the pandemic, Vellner built himself a home gym, allowing him to train a total of 6 hours a day between his home gym and the CrossFit gym in Nanaimo.

Vellner also works part-time as a chiropractor at Island Optimal Health and Performance.

Talk about being busy!
