Victoria’s own Dr. Bonnie Henry appointed to the Order of British Columbia

Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin, chancellor of the Order of British Columbia, has announced 16 people will be appointed to the order this year.

Since its establishment 32 years ago, 475 British Columbians have been appointed to the order from all regions of the province.

Recipients of the Order of BC are selected by an independent advisory council which consists of Chief Justices, Speakers of the Legislative Assembly, deputy ministers, presidents and vice chancellors of universities and more.

This year, 257 public servants were nominated. Of those nominees, only 16 have been chosen to receive the order.

“[The appointed’s] extraordinary leadership has been a source of strength for communities across the province. In difficult times, they have connected us through art, culture, public service and more. As we move with optimism toward the future, their achievements will be a foundation of success for future generations” said Austin.

One of the 16 recipients is our very own Dr. Bonnie Henry.

As BC’s Provincial Health Officer, Henry has been the face of leadership for our province throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, providing insight and support during unprecedented times.

The Order of BC ceremony for 2020/2021 recipients and invited guests is tentatively scheduled to be held at Government House in December 2021.
