BC health officials report 1,984 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period on Monday, September 13th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 1,984 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period on Monday, September 13th.

There have been 175,142 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Day-to-Day Breakdown:

  • Friday-Saturday: 823
  • Saturday-Sunday: 641
  • Sunday-Monday: 520

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 319
  • Fraser Health: 609
  • Island Health: 220
  • Interior Health: 542
  • Northern Health: 294
  • Resident outside Canada: 0

There are currently 5,825 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

167,078 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 278 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 139 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

9 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll at 1,865. 

Data by Vaccination Status: 

From September 3rd to 9th, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 77.8% of cases and from August 27th to September 9th they accounted for 86.2% of hospitalizations.

Past week cases (Sept. 3-9) – Total 4,779

  • Not vaccinated: 3,305 (69.2%)
  • Partially vaccinated: 411 (8.6%)
  • Fully vaccinated: 1,063 (22.2%)

Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Aug. 27-Sept. 9) – Total 348

  • Not vaccinated: 282 (81.0%)
  • Partially vaccinated: 18 (5.2%)
  • Fully vaccinated: 48 (13.8%)

Past week, cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Sept. 3-9)

  • Not vaccinated: 306.3
  • Partially vaccinated: 92.9
  • Fully vaccinated: 27.4

Past two weeks, cases hospitalized per 100,000 population after adjusting for age (Aug. 27-Sept. 9)

  • Not vaccinated: 38.4
  • Partially vaccinated: 7.0
  • Fully vaccinated: 1.1

After factoring for age, people not vaccinated are 34.2 times more likely to be hospitalized than those fully vaccinated.

Outbreaks

There have been two new health-care facility outbreaks at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (Interior Health) and Opal by Element (Vancouver Coastal Health), for a total of 24 active outbreaks, including Sunset Lodge in Victoria.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 220 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region and 607 active cases.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 210 │Total Cases: 2,929
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 249 │ Total Cases: 3,356
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 69 │Total Cases: 1,009

23 people remain in hospital with 16 in ICU.

There has been two new deaths in the Island Health region today, and a total of 56 deaths on Vancouver Island.

Vaccinations

85.8% (3,978,624)  of all eligible adults in B.C. and 78.4% (3,632,547) of those 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition,  86.4% (3,737,364) of all eligible adults in B.C. and 79.3% (3,428,060) of those 12 and older have received their second dose.

To date, 7,618,453 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 3,632,547 of which are second doses.
