Did you begin working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

If so, you aren’t alone!

According to a recent survey by Research Co., 55 per cent of employed British Columbians worked from home instead of their usual workplace during the pandemic.

For many, discussion and plans around what returning to the office would look like started a while ago. Despite not being out of the pandemic, many workplaces have already transitioned back to a mostly regular work environment.

For many, however, the future of their work environment still remains unclear.

In the study by Research Co., it was revealed only 45 per cent of employed British Columbians who transitioned to work from home during the pandemic work for a company that has outlined a plan for their eventual return to work. That means almost half of British Columbians are unsure of what the future of their working environment will look like.

The study was conducted online amongst 700 working adults in British Columbia.

40 per cent of British Columbians who work from home say their company has outlined a plan for return to work and it includes information for how they will be able to work from home in the future.

47 per cent of British Columbians who worked from home during the pandemic say they expect to be able to continue to work remotely at least three times a week.

According to the results of the study, a majority of those involved in the survey prefer working remotely or a mix of hybrid work.

More than half of those who worked from home say they were “very likely” or “moderately likely” to seek a different job if their current employer did not allow them to continue to work from home. This included working from home entirely or still being allowed to work from home a few days a week.

64 per cent of those who participated in the survey said they would consider switching jobs to one that could be performed remotely within their city, 55 per cent would consider the same with a company headquartered in their own province and 44 per cent would consider an offer in another province.
