The City of Victoria will mark Orange Shirt Day with a ceremony downtown this week

The City of Victoria will mark Orange Shirt Day by closing vehicle traffic on certain streets downtown between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 30th.

The Xe xe Smun’ eem-Victoria Orange Shirt Day: Every Child Matters Ceremony will be held in Centennial Square. The following roads will be closed:

-Douglas Street between Fisgard Street and Pandora Avenue
-Pandora Avenue between Douglas Street and Government Street

Signage will be posted about the event by City of Victoria. Any vehicles parked in the closed area will be towed and BC Transit buses will be rerouted.

Fisgard Street will remain open in both directions. Pedestrian and cyclist access to Douglas Street and Pandora Avenue will be maintained during the temporary closure.

Parking will be free at the city’s five parkades and at on-street meters.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation coincides with Orange Shirt Day as an “opportunity for Indigenous Peoples, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come,” the City of Victoria said in a statement.
