Island Health says another patient at Tofino General Hospital (TGH) has tested positive for COVID-19 in the ongoing outbreak at the hospital.

In total, five patients have tested positive for the virus since the outbreak was declared on October 12th.

“This additional case is not the result of new or ongoing transmission at TGH,” Island Health said in a media release.

There has been no impact to other areas of the hospital at this time and the emergency department remains open.

The outbreak at TGH continues to be limited to the inpatient unit.  If you require emergency care, please do not hesitate to visit the emergency room immediately,” the health authority said.

The outbreak at TGF is the only one on Vancouver Island. There are a total of 19 outbreaks in the province.

Island Health has implemented its outbreak strategies at the hospital, which include contact tracing and enhanced cleaning.

In Thursday’s COVID-19 update, the Ministry of Health reported 580 new cases of COVID-19. There are currently 5,348 active cases in the province.

Of the active cases, a total of 378 people are in hospital, 153 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.
