BC Ferries has cancelled multiple sailings Monday in advance of the worsening fall storm.
The ferry corporation issued a series of service notices advising of cancellations on Monday, October 25th, due to “anticipated adverse weather conditions.”
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for most of Vancouver Island warning of strong winds and heavy rainfall starting today.
According to the weather agency, extremely windy conditions are in the forecast on Sunday and Monday for Vancouver Island and neighbouring regions along the Strait of Georgia.
A strong rapidly deepening low pressure system from the Pacific is expected to approach west of Vancouver Island on Sunday and begin to bring rain and strong southeasterly winds of 70 to 90 km/h with gusts possibly exceeding 100 km/h to the west and north coast of Vancouver Island.
Strong southeasterly winds of 50 to 70 km/h gusting to 90 will develop over East Vancouver Island Sunday afternoon.
In a statement released Sunday, the company listed several cancellations, many of them on the major routes between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island.
