A woman was found in the water at the Horseshoe Bay terminal, delaying BC Ferries sailings Wednesday morning.

Nanaimo RCMP said that BC Ferries employees discovered the woman’s vehicle with the keys still inside and alerted authorities of the missing person.

The discovery of the vehicle led officers to believe someone entered the water in Nanaimo, which suspended the vessel from leaving.

Police and the coast guard were dispatched to search the water around the Departure Bay ferry terminal.

During the search, police received a call from officers on the mainland who said a woman in her 50’s was found in the water near the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal.

The woman was taken to hospital in the Lower Mainland where she is being assessed.
