BC Premier John Horgan to undergo surgery to remove lump found in throat

BC’s Premier will undergo biopsy surgery this week after a lump was discovered in his throat.

Premier John Horgan made the candid announcement on Thursday morning.

According to the premier, he has been in and out of hospitals for weeks after discovering a lump on the back of his neck earlier this month.

He said doctors were investigating a benign growth in his neck when the lump was discovered.

Horgan said that he would not be stepping down from his duties as Premier, but that in the case he must, Mike Farnworth,  BC’s solicitor general, was appointed the province’s deputy premier, and will step in if Horgan is temporarily unavailable due to treatment.

On his transparency, Horgan thought it served as a reminder that cancer scares are something that impact the lives of most people in the province.

“I have been here before and I am not alone. People all around the province receive news like this every day,” Horgan said.

“My message to all British Columbians is, please don’t wait. If you are concerned about something, don’t put it off. Go see a doctor, go to an urgent and primary care centre to get it checked out as soon as you can.”

Further treatment may be necessary after the initial procedure.
