UPDATE: West Shore RCMP have safely taken the person in crisis into custody and are on their way to provide that individual with the necessary care. The highway is being reopened.

The Trans Canada Highway is closed in both directions as West Shore RCMP deal with an ongoing incident.
In a tweet, RCMP said they closed the highway as they assist someone in crisis.
“Please use patience as we attempt to de-escalate the situation,” said West Shore RCMP in their tweet.

Police are asking people to use alternate routes as they assist a distraught person on the Helmcken Road overpass.
