Island Health declares COVID-19 outbreak at Tofino hospital

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared by Island Health at Tofino General Hospital (TGH) on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the health authority, four patients have tested positive for the virus.

“The outbreak at TGH is limited to the inpatient unit,” reads a statement from Island Health.

There has been no impact to other areas of the hospital at this time and the emergency department remains open.

“If you require emergency care, please do not hesitate to visit the emergency room immediately,” said Island Health.

Island Health has implemented its outbreak strategies at the hospital, which includes contact tracing and enhanced cleaning.

In today’s COVID-19 update, the Ministry of Health reported 2,090 new cases of COVID-19 over a four-day period on Tuesday, October 12th.
