The Nanaimo RCMP are investigating an act of vandalism at a downtown Nanaimo business and are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

Sometime overnight on Thursday, October 14th, a suspect spray painted a large swastika in red paint on the front windows of a central Nanaimo business.

The vandalism was discovered by employees when they arrived to work in the morning. It was immediately reported to police.

After taking a photo of the vandalism as evidence, the employees removed all traces of it from the storefront.

Later that day, investigators were able to access the business’ security cameras to obtain an image of the suspect.

The person is possibly female with bright orange hair. In the security footage, the suspect was wearing a blue puffy jacket and white pants. A yellow backpack was also seen lying on the ground next to the suspect.

A day previous to this incident, on October 13th, another swastika was found drawn in cement, in the vicinity of Cameron Island.

No suspect has been identified in either incidents.

“Because of what these images represent, we will not be showing the images to the public,” said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

If you have any information on the identity of the suspect, you are asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2021-38490.
