BC health officials report 1,438 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period on Monday, November 8th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 1,438 new cases of COVID-19 for a three-day period on Monday, November 8th.

There have been 209,703 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Day-to-Day Breakdown:

  • Friday-Saturday: 553
  • Saturday-Sunday: 462
  • Sunday-Monday: 423

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 155
  • Fraser Health: 575
  • Island Health: 221
  • Interior Health: 321
  • Northern Health: 166
  • Resident outside Canada: 0

There are currently 4,282 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

202,898 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 407 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 121 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

17 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll 2,218.

Outbreaks

There have been three new health-care facility outbreaks at Burnaby Hospital, Maplewood House and Revera Parkwood Manor (Fraser Health).

The outbreaks at Chilliwack General Hospital, Rideau Retirement Residence, Norman Manor, Menno Terrace West (Fraser Health), Overlander, Haven Hill Retirement Centre and Deni House (Interior Health) have been declared over.

There are a total of 33 active outbreaks in the province.

There are 2 active healthcare outbreaks in the Island Health region: Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence and Nanaimo Regional General Hospital

Island Health:

Island Health reported 221 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region and 518 active cases.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 126 │Total Cases: 4580
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 306 │ Total Cases: 5284
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 86 │Total Cases: 1420

61 people remain in hospital with 15 in ICU. 

There were 3 new deaths reported in the Island Health region today, and a total of 100 deaths on Vancouver Island.

Vaccinations

As of Monday, Nov. 8, 2021, 90.3% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.0% have received their second dose.

In addition, 90.7% of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 86.6% have received their second dose.

To date, 8,346,993 (+35,135) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 3,986,497 (+12,752) of which are second doses.
