BC health officials report 341 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, November 26th

The BC Ministry of Health reported 341 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, November 26th.

There have been 217,099 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

In addition to today’s update, BC Health officials addressed the new variant of COVID-19.

“We support the measures taken today by the federal government in response to the newly identified variant of concern, Omicron. We will continue to closely monitor developments around the world” Dr. Bonnie Henry and Adrian Dix said.

“At this time, there is no evidence that this variant has been introduced into British Columbia. The BC Centre for Disease Control’s public health lab has sequenced over 90,000 virus isolates in B.C. and will continue to use whole genome sequencing to monitor for all variants circulating in B.C., including this new VOC Omicron. In addition, public health will be working with the Public Health Agency of Canada and Canada Border Services Agency to identify any people recently returned from the areas of concern to arrange testing and to ensure they remain well.”

New cases were reported in these health regions:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 65
  • Fraser Health: 100
  • Island Health: 68
  • Interior Health: 77
  • Northern Health: 31
  • Resident outside Canada: 0

There are currently 3,035 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

211,577 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are now a total of 291 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 115 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.

6 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll 2,322.

Outbreaks

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks in the province.

The outbreaks at Queens Park Care Centre and Dufferin Care Centre have been declared over.

There are a total of 8 ongoing health care outbreaks in the province.

There are currently no health care outbreaks in the Island Health region.

Island Health:

Island Health reported 68 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region and 401 active cases.

Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:

  • South Vancouver Island  Active cases: 92 │Total Cases: 4802
  • Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 202 │ Total Cases: 5861
  • North Vancouver Island  Active cases: 107 │Total Cases: 1689

51 people remain in hospital with 15 in ICU. 

There were no new deaths reported in the Island Health region today, and a total of 119 deaths on Vancouver Island.

Vaccinations

As of Friday, Nov. 26, 2021, 91.0% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 87.6% have received their second dose.

In addition, 91.4% of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 88.1% have received their second dose.

To date, 8,630,478 (+20,835) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 4,060,193 (+3,465) of which are second doses.
