City of Victoria will require its employees to be fully-immunized against COVID-19

In an unsurprising move, the City of Victoria announced today that all employees must be fully-vaccinated against COVID-19.

By January 5th, 2022, the City of Victoria will require each of its employees to have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine as a term of employment.

The requirement, the City said, aligns with the provincial announcement that all BC Public Service employees are required to be vaccinated and the provincial health order that requires vaccination and COVID-19 policies.

The City said it is still finalizing details of how to address instances where employees do not comply with the requirement to be fully vaccinated without legitimate grounds for accommodation under the BC Human Rights Code.

Elected officials will not be subject to the vaccination policy, but each member of city council has disclosed that they are fully-vaccinated.

The deadline was chosen to provide sufficient time for staff members who have not yet received their first dose.
