A COVID-19 outbreak at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) continues to grow.

One additional patient and one staff member have been infected in the hospital’s Transitional Care Unit for a total of nine infected during the outbreak. Seven of these cases are patients.

The outbreak at the hospital is limited to the Transitional Care Unit.

The first person tested positive on October 31st after displaying symptoms.

Following the positive case, Island Health immediately implemented precautions, including enhanced cleaning and contact tracing.

“Until further notice, no new admissions will be allowed to the Transitional Care Unit, and movement in and out of the unit will be monitored and restricted,” Island Health said.

Out of an abundance of caution, visitation on the unit will be limited to essential visits only at this time.

Island Health said that going to NGRH for any emergencies is safe.
