Sections of the Malahat will be closed overnight all week for repairs due to Monday’s extreme flooding.

The province issued a media release advising motorists that the Malahat section of Trans Canada Highway (HWY 1) between West Shore Parkway and Tunnel Hill will be closed overnight in both directions until November 22nd.

The full overnight closure is required to repair the highway at Tunnel Hill from damage caused by the recent weather conditions.

During the daytime, the highway will be open to single-lane alternating traffic for 30-minute intervals.

The province said drivers should expect major delays during daytime openings and consider limiting travel for essential purposes only.

The highway will remain open to single-alternating traffic today until 7 p.m. and then close until 6 a.m. on Wednesday. Moving forward, the stretch of highway will be closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Sunday.

The Pacific Marine route is open as an alternate route.

Additionally, the Brentwood Bay to Mill Bay Ferry is an another alternative route for those requiring travel. While the ferry operated overnight Monday, the service will return to operating with its regular daytime hours.
