One person is dead after an apartment fire in Saanich on Sunday night.

On Sunday, October 31st, around 9:30 p.m. the Saanich Fire Department responded to reports of a blaze in the 3200-block of Cook Street.

Three engines, a ladder and a rescue truck responded with 18 firefighters.

Crews kept the fire contained to one unit and no other injuries were reported.

Investigators with Saanich Fire and police are returning to the scene Monday morning to assess damage and determine the cause of the fire.

This is the second fatal fire in the past week; last week, a  fire at an apartment complex in James Bay claimed one life. That fire was deemed not suspicious.
