An overnight storm left many Vancouver Island and Gulf Island residents in the dark last night.

More than 7,000 BC Hydro customers were affected by what Environment Canada predicted was between 70 km/h and 90 km/h winds last night.

Colwood, Langford, Nanaimo and Courtenay experienced the worst of the storm

Many outages remained until 7 a.m. this morning BC Hydro is currently investigating dozens more.

In total, there were about 11 outages in the Greater Victoria area.
