Saanich Police are looking to speak with anyone who visited two Vancouver Island beaches in late October as they continue their search in locating a 70-year old Montreal man who went missing in Victoria.

Jean-Michel Cabanes was visiting Victoria from Montreal, Quebec.

According to his family, he planned to spend some time on the island and possibly do some camping.

Upon arriving, Cabanes rented a Class C motorhome in Saanich which was to be returned by October 26th.

When the motorhome was not returned and Cabanes did not board his flight home a few days later on October 28th, his family became concerned and reported him missing.

On October 29th, Saanich Police located the motorhome rented by Cabanes at China Beach. They believed the motorhome had been there since October 20th or 21st.

They did not, however, locate Cabanes and he remains missing. Juan De Fuca Search-and-rescue crews scoured the rugged area but were not able to locate him and the search has since been called off.

Cabanes’ family is concerned for his well-being as they say it is out of character for him to not be in regular contact.

He is described as Caucasian, 6’2” tall, 240 pounds, with grey hair.

Cabanes speaks fluent English with a French accent.

Saanich PD are reaching out to the public in the event they accessed the China Beach or Mystic Beach trails or parking lots between October 20th to 29th.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saanich Police department at 250-475-4321.
