Getting around town is getting a little easier for teenagers with the announcement youths can hop on the bus for free starting in the new year.

Starting today, youth living in the municipality of Victoria can apply for a free annual Youth U-Pass valid for 2022.

With this U-PASS, youth aged thirteen to eighteen will be able to travel for free on the Victoria Regional Transit System from January 1st to December 31st 2022.

Currently, children twelve and under already ride for free.

In order to receive your free U-PASS, Victoria youth, their parents and/or guardians must provide documentation and confirm they are eligible to participate in the program.

Applications can be found online at U-PASS Victoria. Those who cannot apply online can apply in person at the City’s Public Service Centre.

“Free transit services give youth access to reliable transportation to school, work and recreation and make it easier to explore the city without the need of a vehicle,” said Mayor Lisa Helps.

“The free U-PASS is key to fostering young transit users that will continue to opt for public transportation for years to come and help reduce emissions by keeping future cars off the road.”

The free 2022 Youth U-PASS program is the first of its kind in British Columbia. The program hopes to encourage low-carbon, affordable transportation to lead to less traffic congestion in the city.
