VicPD is offering $20,000 as an incentive to twelve new experienced officers

In an effort to address the ongoing resource shortages in the city, VicPD has announced they will be offering a temporary, one-time $20,000 incentive to new, experienced hires.

The initiative started on November 1st with the aim to hire twelve experienced officers who will be offered the incentive and hired immediately.

This Experienced Officer Incentive hopes to attract experienced police officers to Victoria who have been serving with other Canadian police departments.

After qualifying with BC provincial policing standards, these officers will be hired and deployed to Victoria with a reduced turnaround time as opposed to normal.

VicPD does not currently provide relocation or travel expenses for experienced officers hired from other jurisdictions.

“While Victoria is a beautiful place to live and work, it is also one of the most expensive places in Canada to live,” said Chief Del Manak.

“With over 35 officers unable to be deployed to frontline duty, the hard limits on training spaces available to us, and the timelines required to recruit and train new officers, we need to hire the best police officers from across Canada to relocate and serve here in Victoria and Esquimalt.”
