The BC Ministry of Health reported 341 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, December 9th.
There have been 221,576 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
New cases were reported in these health regions:
- Vancouver Coastal Health: 61
- Fraser Health: 83
- Island Health: 98
- Interior Health: 70
- Northern Health: 29
- Resident outside Canada: 0
There are currently 2,915 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.
216,185 people who tested positive have recovered.
There are now a total of 220 people in hospital due to COVID-19, 73 of whom are in critical care — ICU or acute care units.
9 new people have died from COVID-related causes, making the provincial death toll 2,378.
Outbreaks
There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks in the province.
There are a total of 5 ongoing health care outbreaks in the province.
Island Health:
Island Health reported 98 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region and 529 active cases.
Breakdown of cases on Vancouver Island:
- South Vancouver Island Active cases: 117 │Total Cases: 5007
- Central Vancouver Island Active cases: 199 │ Total Cases: 6258
- North Vancouver Island Active cases: 213 │Total Cases: 2068
34 people remain in hospital with 8 in ICU.
There were 3 new deaths reported in the Island Health region today, and a total of 130 deaths on Vancouver Island.
Vaccinations
As of Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, 85.9% of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.1% have received their second dose.
In addition, 91.4% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 88.3% received their second dose and 12% have received a third dose.
Also, 91.8% of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose, 88.8% have received their second dose and 13% have received a third dose.
To date, 8,889,167 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC; 4,094,539 of which are second doses.
