Put those umbrellas away, Victoria.

Not because there will be any lack of rain, but because strong winds are on the way.. and umbrellas are expensive.

According to Environment Canada, an intense Pacific frontal system will bring rain and strong winds to the south coast on Friday and Saturday.

The weather agency released a special weather statement stating areas near the Strait of Georgia and Haro Strait can expect the strongest winds with speeds of 70 km/h gusting to 90 developing overnight Friday.

The strong winds will ease late Saturday morning.

In the wake of the wind warning, Environment Canada advises the public to be aware of damage caused to buildings, and loose objects tossed by wind that may cause injuries.
