A man was left badly injured on a school playground this week, and Vancouver Island police are looking for answers.
On Thursday, January 27th, at around 12:20 a.m., North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP was called to Alexander Elementary School in Duncan.
BC Ambulance had requested help after a man was found suffering face trauma consistent with an assault.
“Due to his injuries, the man was unable to describe the suspect or suspects,” police said in a Friday media release, noting he was sent to hospital for medical treatment.
“Through investigation, police believe the victim was involved in an altercation with unknown individuals on the school grounds in the hour before this assault,” added Sgt. Chris Manseau.
“There is no indication that any weapons were used in this altercation, contrary to rumours on social media,” he said, asking the public “not to perpetuate these rumours as they can interfere with the investigation.”
At this time, investigators are speaking to witnesses and gathering evidence. They think a group of kids may have been at the scene before or as the assault occurred.
Anyone with information or video footage is asked to call the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at (250) 746-5522.
