A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Saanich on January 28th in connection with the murder of a Toronto taxi driver last October.

The incident occurred at around 8:48 p.m. Sunday, October 24th, 2021, at an intersection in the Toronto area.

Toronto Police Services (TPS) said they were called to the scene after receiving reports that a taxi had crashed into a fence.

When officers arrived, they found 73-year-old Christopher Jung suffering from multiple gun shots in his car.

He was transported to hospital where he died from his injuries.

Following Jung’s death, a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder was issued for a 17-year-old boy from the Toronto area.

On January 28th, Saanich Police arrested four men in a vehicle, adding that a firearm was seized at this time.

“One of the four was a 17-year-old, who was wanted Canada-Wide out of the Toronto Police Service for second-degree murder,” Saanich Police said in a statement on Friday.

Saanich police said the arrest was coordinated by Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team.

TPS homicide officers then travelled to Victoria and took custody of the young person, returning him to Toronto.

His identity was not released because it is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and appeared in a Toronto courtroom today.
