Island Health begins scaling back COVID-19 vaccine clinic hours

Share

With more and more Vancouver Island residents getting vaccinated against COVID-19, Island Health announced it is adjusting the operations of its COVID-19 mass immunization clinics.

In a press release Monday, the health authority said they will begin the scaling back of large COVID-19 vaccination clinics in communities across Vancouver Island to match the current demand.

The remaining clinics in the Island Health area, combined with the addition of more than 170 community pharmacies, will continue to administer doses.

Additionally, clinics will shift the focus on vaccinating children ages 5 to 11, as a pediatric COVID-19 vaccine is not available for them in pharmacies.

Clinics will also provide appointments for adults seeking new, non-MRNA vaccines, such as the newly approved Novovax, when they become available in BC.

Some Island Health clinics, like University Heights and Archie Browning, will close. Others will reduce days of operation.

As of Monday, February 28th, 11,339,815 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in BC.
