Rainfall warning in effect for Greater Victoria on Monday

Grab your umbrella – the workweek is off to a rainy start.

Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings Monday for various parts of the island, including Greater Victoria.

It comes as a moisture-laden weather system spreads heavy showers across the south coast, according to the weather agency.

Anywhere from 50 to 70 mm of rain is expected to drench BC’s capital throughout the day today before tapering off this evening.

Farther north, the warning extends into East Vancouver Island from Duncan to Nanaimo, as well as West Vancouver Island.

Only to the west, southern sections like Port Renfew, Jordan River and Sooke could see up to 100 mm of rain today – on top of the 17.6 mm that fell across the region Sunday.

Cautioning drivers, Environment Canada warns that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Weather officials urge people to monitor alerts and forecasts, reporting severe weather via email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or by tweeting with #BCStorm.
