VicPD are asking for the public’s help in locating two key witnesses and a suspect in a sexual assault incident that took place in Esquimalt last week.
At approximately 3:45 p.m., on Friday February 9th a man approached a 16-year-old girl from behind near the bus stop in the 1300-block of Esquimalt Road.
The girl, upon realizing the man was behind her, quickly walked away from him.
The man then followed closely behind her while committing an indecent act.
Two witnesses, a man and a woman, saw what was happening and intervened, with the male witness chasing the suspect away.
The suspect was last seen leaving the area on foot on Admirals Road and the girl, who was not physically injured in the assault, left the area immediately.
The incident was reported to police on February 10th. Investigation began immediately, with officers canvassing the area for surveillance video.
On February 13th, investigators were able to access video footage which captured a portion of the incident, however, the camera was a significant distance away.
The video assisted with both the suspect and witness descriptions.
Now, investigators are looking to identify and speak with the male and female witnesses who intervened as well as the suspect who committed the act.
The suspect is described as Caucasian, approximately 60-years-old, standing 5’9” to 6’0” tall with stubble and a skinny build.
At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark hoodie and a backpack.
The male witness is described as Caucasian with curly brown hair and a dark toque.
The female witness is described as Caucasian with a slim build and short brown hair.
Both witnesses were approximately 16-years-old and wearing jeans and backpacks.
