The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is currently investigating two separate incidents that occurred in Victoria, both involving VicPD.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. on January 29th, officers responded to the report of an alleged robbery at a business near Quadra and Yates street.

According to VicP, upon arrival, a man matching the description was quickly located near the intersection of Quadra Street and Pandora Avenue.

While being taken into custody, with the assistance of a police service dog, the suspect sustained a serious but not life-threatening dog bite injury.

Paramedics attended the scene and the man was transported to hospital for treatment.

The second incident being investigated occurred at approximately 1:25 p.m. on February 6th.

According to VicPD, officers responded to a call at a residential building in the 1900 block of Fort Street after receiving a call regarding a man in distress.

Once on scene, officers allege the man was found dead from injuries that appeared to have been self-inflicted.

The IIO began an investigation to determine what role, if any, police may have played in the death.

The BC Coroners Service is also conducting an independent investigation to determine the circumstances of the man’s death.

Anyone with relevant information regarding either incidents is asked to call the witness line at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
