West Shore RCMP are thanking a store employee who assisted an officer during an arrest gone violent last week.

At approximately 12 p.m., on February 24th, RCMP received a report of a man allegedly stealing from a business in the 800 block of Langford Parkway.

According to reports, the man was causing a disturbance, screaming at staff members and refusing to leave.

An officer quickly arrived on scene to find employees escorting the suspect out of the business.

When the officer informed 35-year-old William Bradshaw he was under arrest, he became violent with him.

Thankfully, the officer was able to safely complete the arrest with the assistance of a staff member.

“The West Shore RCMP would like to thank the staff member for assisting the officer in this high stress situation,” said Constable Meghan Groulx, spokesperson for the West Shore RCMP.

“Suspects can be unpredictable, and the assistance and bravery shown by this employee helped the officer get this offender under control.”

A short time later, Bradshaw assaulted the police officer who was admitting him to his cell at the West Shore RCMP detachment.

The officer sustained minor injuries but was able to remain on duty after receiving medical treatment.

Bradshaw was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and theft.

He was later released with a court date in March.
