As the Ukraine crisis continues, another ‘Stand with Ukraine’ rally took place in Victoria over the weekend.
On Sunday, March 6th, thousands lined Douglas Street, starting outside the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, past Mayfair Shopping Centre and into the downtown core.
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) Victoria branch hosted the rally, together with the UVic Ukrainian Students’ Society and Victoria Ukrainian Cultural Centre.
UCC Victoria president Devon Sereda Goldie told Victoria Buzz last week, the goal is to raise awareness, spreading solidarity to those who drive past.
Supporters were swathed in blue and yellow, some wearing flags around their shoulders and many carrying signs showing their love for Ukraine, others denouncing the violence that is currently taking place there.Risking a $125 fine from a recently approved bylaw, cars passing by honked to show their support for Ukraine, which has been under attack by Russian forces since February 24th.
