BC born Ryan Reynolds and his wife and actress Blake Lively made a significant donation to a Canadian non-profit this month, focused on supporting Indigenous communities.

The couple’s $500,000 donation was made to Water First, an organization that works with Indigenous communities in Canada, working to address local water challenges through education training and collaboration.

Water First is guided by the Indigenous youth and young adults who participate in their programs, Indigenous staff and board members, local Indigenous community partners and by members of their Indigenous Advisory Council.

“Access to clean drinking water is a basic human right” the two said in a joint statement.

“Canada is home to over 20% of the planet’s freshwater- an abundance that’s envied around the world. There’s absolutely no reason Indigenous communities should not have access to safe, clean water.”

The large donation by Reynolds and Lively is sure to make a big difference.

According to the non-profit, the significant donation by Reynolds and Lively will provide resources to support the next generation of Indigenous youth who participate in Water First’s programs.

“We appreciate Water First’s focus on supporting young, Indigenous adults to become certified water operators and environmental technicians,” Reynolds and Lively added.

“These folks are helping to ensure sustainable access to safe, clean water locally, now and for the future. Blake and I are thrilled to support this important work.”
