‘Did the right thing’: Construction-site thieves turn themselves in to Saanich Police

A pair of construction-site thieves are now facing criminal charges after they turned themselves in to Saanich Police this week.

Last Friday, Cst. Markus Anastasiades told Victoria Buzz that police were investigating a January theft from the 5000-block of Cordova Bay Road.

Officers obtained CCTV footage of the suspects, pictured with their dog, and reached out to Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers “as an investigative step for assistance in identifying the two persons.”

The duo stole about $5,000 worth of tools from the construction site.

“On Tuesday evening, both suspects turned themselves over to police, noting that they had seen themselves on the Crime Stoppers posts online,” states a press release.

“Some of the property was also recovered.”

Both were released from custody last night but now face a date in court with a charge each of break and enter, according to police.

“This is the outcome we were hoping for, and they both did the right thing by turning themselves in,” added Anastasiades.

“Our local Crime Stoppers continues to assist our investigations, and we thank them for creating the awareness for this file.”

To make an anonymous report for any police investigation, Saanich Police urge people to contact Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1 (888) 222-8477 or online at victoriacrimestoppers.ca.
